Starting Fires with Fire Gel

A great product to start a fire on damp wood or if you are in a frozen environment, like starting a fire on top of snow. Fire Gel, which comes in a tube can be started by a spark device. It will not flare up in your face and can also be used to supplement tinder. The paste is ethanol based and is also great for cookouts. A product that could be used in your survival bag or your bunker. Simple, long self-life and good for those wet environments you may be heading into. 

How to Braid a 3 Strand Loop

Grab your rope and learn how to braid a three-strand rope. Braiding does not weaken the rope when you create a loop; the strength of rope comes from the friction of the fibers. Take the tail or bitter end of the rope and unravel the three strands. Now you will have left, center and right tail ends that you will braid into the working end of the rope. Take your center strand and create a loop with it then take the center strand of the tail end and loop it in the same direction. Repeating this process creates the friction on friction force to maintain the strength of the original rope. 

How to Braid Hollow Core Rope

Learn how to braid a hollow core rope; the friction created by the fibers in the rope is what maintains the strength of a rope. Start with a loop to work from, so you can push the tool through the backside of the rope. Next, put the tail end of rope inside of the tool and push the tool back through, moving the center strand inside the rope. Push the rope down through the center creating the friction necessary so the strength of the rope is not compromised. After you dress the rope you will have a finished loop. As the loop is loaded with weight, the tighter the rope will get, increasing the friction without weakening the rope. A great survival loop to know and the program will teach you how to make it. 

Starting Fire with Petroleum Jelly Cotton Balls

Learn how to use Cotton or Dryer Lint to suspend petroleum lube in the fibers as tinder to start a fire. Tom explains that this is a great option that is very inexpensive to make. You will need an ignition method such as a flame or even a spark that will get you started. Alex starts a fire fast with a flint steel rod then expands this small fire into a larger fire. As you will see, this is only used to start the fire. You will need to add longer burning fuel sources to maintain and grow your fire. These are light, small, waterproof, with a long burn time and they can be started with one hand. A great homemade product you can include in your survival bag. A must watch video! 

Starting a Fire with a Spark Device

Starting a fire with a device like flint steel is a simple way to ignite the tinder. Using a magnesium bar to shave off tinder and using the other side with the flint steel to spark is also another product in this video. Sparkers should be in every survival bag; they are waterproof, small, and work great. In this video, Tom teaches you the basics on how to start your tinder with a sparker while Alex demonstrates how to use a spark device with one hand. There are many products you can buy to set fire to the tinder in your fire pit. This video shows you how to use a sparker to ignite your tinder, building your fire with kindling and slowly adding fuel sources with longer burning times.
